Inaugural 1st Friday was Sept. 6th and we have a WINNER!

Caladium Arts & Crafts members Eleanor Moore & Janet Robinson present Rod Lewis with the gift-filled basket from all five Tour Lake Placid organizations.

Congratulations Rod!

Rod was one of many who participated in the drawing where visitors had to "Tour Lake Placid" to have their entry validated at each location during the inaugural 1st Friday on Sept. 6th.

Lake Placid’s inaugural 1st Friday was a wonderful success. “We really didn’t know what to expect for our first night and boy were we pleasantly surprised!” says Harriet Porter, head of the Tour Lake Placid group.  “We just knew we wanted to start this.  The Caladium Arts & Crafts Cooperative really was instrumental in beginning this in September.  Judy Nicewicz, CACC President, came to the meeting and told us they wanted to honor their Artist of the Month with a Meet & Greet Reception and be open in the evening for home town residents to come shop.  We all chimed in with lots of other ideas for a monthly event, and, well, you see where it took us. We were especially excited that a few other downtown merchants took advantage of the activity and stayed open as well! Hopefully even more will for October.”

Each of the five non-profit Art & Cultural destinations in Lake Placid reported a nice crowd coming to visit, many for the first time. Each location had something special going on: balloon animals, face painting, artist demonstrations, videos and of course refreshments. Visitors were directed, with the help of a map, to each of the five locations taking their Gift Basket Entry Form to be marked for their chance to win the beautiful basket full of goodies.

The treasure chest of a basket contained original hand crafted items from the Caladium Arts & Crafts Co-op members: bracelet, wine glasses, wine glass coasters, votive, note cards, scrubbies and an array of Godiva Chocolates; The Clown School & Museum donated a hand crotched scarf & mug, The Train Museum/Depot donated a mug, train whistle & a CD of the Melvil Dewey Story; one of the Lake Placid Art League members contributed a beautifully carved wood bowl. A Mural Book and brochures from each rounded off the amazing basket. There will be another great basket drawing next month too.

The lucky winner of the basket was local reporter Rod Lewis. (Picture above) Rod was very excited when he looked closely at the basket filled with many gifts. He had not realized just how full it was and thanked all those who donated items for the basket.

Plans for October’s 1st Friday (October 4th), are already in the works with the Caladium Arts & Crafts Co-op hosting an Arts & Crafts Show in their large classroom along with the Artist of the Month Meet & Greet Reception.

If you are interested in participating please call Judy Nicewicz, 863.386.0123.  The Lake Placid Art League will be hosting a Member & Community Photography Exhibition & Open House, while plans are still in the works for other locations. We encourage the downtown merchants to be open as well.
